Dayara Bugyal's relatively short duration makes it one of the most accessible high-meadow treks in Uttarakhand, and the journey begins with a drive that follows the now-familiar route toward Uttarkashi before branching off on a quieter road toward Raithal, a traditional Garhwali village that serves as one of two common trailheads for this meadow, the other being nearby Barsu. The drive itself passes through the same broad Bhagirathi valley scenery used by treks bound for Gangotri, though the turn toward Raithal comes well before Uttarkashi's more distant stretches, saving significant driving time compared to routes headed deeper into the high mountains. Raithal itself is a genuinely picturesque Garhwali settlement, its traditional wooden houses with elaborately carved facades considered among the finest examples of vernacular Himalayan architecture in this part of Uttarakhand, and the village's apple orchards, terraced fields, and unhurried pace offer an immediate, pleasant introduction to rural Garhwal life. A short walk through the village on arrival, rather than a demanding trek, allows time to appreciate this architecture properly, from ornately carved wooden balconies to slate roofing designed to withstand heavy winter snow. Homestay accommodation here, arranged with local families rather than in a generic guesthouse, offers a genuinely warm welcome and a chance to sample home-cooked Garhwali food, often including seasonal specialties depending on the time of year. Guides use the evening to explain Dayara Bugyal's particular appeal, a vast, rolling meadow considered one of the largest and most beautiful high-altitude grasslands in the Garhwal Himalaya, easily reached even by relatively inexperienced trekkers within just a day or two of walking, making it a popular choice for families and first-time Himalayan visitors alike.

The climb from Raithal to Dayara Bugyal packs a substantial elevation gain into a single day, but the well-graded trail and the steady, absorbing scenery along the way make the effort feel considerably more manageable than the raw numbers might suggest. The path climbs through dense oak forest almost immediately upon leaving Raithal, passing through Gui, a small settlement whose modest wooden houses and terraced fields offer a final glimpse of permanent habitation before the trail continues into less inhabited terrain. Beyond Gui, the forest thickens further, oak giving way gradually to mixed conifer stands as height increases, and the trail's switchbacks, while numerous, are consistently graded in a way that avoids the sudden steep pitches found on some of the region's more demanding treks. The transition from forest to meadow, when it finally arrives near the top, is genuinely dramatic, the trees simply stopping to reveal an enormous, rolling expanse of grass stretching in every direction, framed by views toward Bandarpoonch and, on clear days, a distant glimpse of the Gangotri group far to the northeast. Dayara Bugyal's sheer scale sets it apart from many of Uttarakhand's other high meadows, and the grass here, grazed seasonally by local shepherd communities, takes on a lush green character through summer and monsoon before turning golden-brown in autumn and disappearing under snow through winter, when the meadow becomes a popular, if considerably more demanding, destination for skiing and snow-trekking. Camp is set on relatively flat ground within the meadow, offering wide-open views in every direction, and the evening light across this vast grassland, largely unbroken by any trees or significant rock features, creates one of the more expansive, uncluttered sunset scenes available on any short Uttarakhand trek.
